Last Blog Avery Gollnick

For our final projects, we were asked to create a webpage highlighting our various production assignments over the course of the semester. As of writing this blog, I honestly haven’t completed much of my website but I believe I have a solid start. I want to base my interface as a minimally designed flaneurist center […]

BLOG 4 Avery Gollnick

As our final photo-a-day came, I found great relief in knowing I wouldn’t have to stress about constantly taking photos; a pet peeve of mine. Over the course of the project, I uploaded pictures consistently until the last week where I simply did not have enough time to get that many panoramas. The biggest struggles […]

Review Of Wayne’s Soundscape

With Wayne’s location being the same as mine, I was definitely interested in seeing how his interpretation of the space differed. In short, his soundscape was high quality, interesting, and funny. From his accents and impersonations, he nailed an interpretation of white girls. His soundscapes were also extremely interesting and sonically pleasing. To my surprise, […]

Reading Response Avery Gollnick

How do images persuade? The Psychology of Rhetorical Images written by Charles A. Hill delves into this question and its intricacies. He explains that people like to reenforce their current ideas so when imagery makes a viewer feel they are intelligent about a certain topic, they are more likely to pay attention to it. He […]

Reading Response 4

The concept of drone warfare is a dangerous idea to play with. Once a country does not ever have to sacrifice any lives to take them, the notion of war begins to crumble and the nation that can build the most psycho killing robots the fastest will ultimately concor. Although John Naughton was probably not […]

Lisa Gye’s 2007 article, Picture This: the Impact of Mobile Camera Phones on Personal Photographic Practices explained the history to the current state of mobile phone photography. Blog #3 Locative Media Avery Gollnick

This locative media production assignment has a particular significance to me as a student interested in sound production, communications, and media. Before this project was proposed, I had never heard of locative media as a medium, but it immediately sounded interesting. From the beginning I had a sort of rough idea of what emotions I […]

Blog #2 Avery Gollnick As someone who jumped on the Vine bandwagon early, and being a filmmaker for many years, I figured this project would be a breeze. From the first day I learned about the assignment, I began to brainstorm creative video ideas. From the beginning, I wanted to create something related to my passion for music, but I did not have any brilliant ideas. I was considering just recording me creating a beat, but even with time, I was not able to come up with something interesting. As the deadline approached, I still did not have a Vine, and I began to worry about what I was really going to do. Consistent with my procrastinating life, I waited until the last day to film my Vine. I woke up earlier to start my project, and headed outside for inspiration. While on my skateboard, I noticed I could film more smoothly, and I began to make test Vines. I downloaded Instagram’s Hyperlapse app and noticed it had a built in stabilizer, making it very easy to make smooth, moving time lapses. With class approaching, I took many of these Hyperlapses skating all around campus, trying to find the perfect six seconds. After many failed attempts, class was about to begin and I had not yet created a Vine I was happy with so I created a Hyperlapse showing how to get to class from the UMC. This Vine project relates closely to this course as Vine is a flourishing social media and is used across many different mediums. From capturing current events, to comedic acts, the social media powerhouse has been rising in popularity since its inception. https://twitter.com/AveryGollnick/status/700440906965655556?s=09

Blog Post 2 Avery Gollnick

Before the photo a day assignment began, my Instagram account lied mostly dormant in cyberspace. Upon my first few posts I soon noticed how crowded my page would become. I knew I had to promote myself as a producer, and the more social media activity I have, the better. The self-portrait assignment has been the […]
